conceived, visualised and directed by Stephanos Droussiotis
Image One is an original work by Stephanos Droussiotis for one male and one female performer; a site-specific piece, set inside the Costumes Archive Department of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation. Without spoken word.
The space is transformed into a dystopian darkroom for the two main characters (Man, Woman). It becomes the allegorical terrain upon which an existential nightmare unfolds, an exercise that continuously blurs the boundaries of reality for the Man. Like a Freudian dream, the scenic action progresses at times measured, at others deafening and it unfolds a twisted narrative in the Man’s mind, testing the very characteristics of the relationship with his mother.
Image One was the first part of a trilogy on human kindness, distinguished by a specific creative experiment: each piece was developed, rehearsed, visualised and brought to the stage within just fourteen days from conception. This bold but deliberate compression of time was an attempt to work with complete freedom; to create instinctively, allowing the subconscious to lead the creative process without censorship; a study on the spontaneous creation of the unfiltered mind.
